Client: Bovis Lend Lease
Project: M&E dismantling, strip out and enabling works, Hertfordshire
KpH provided extensive strip out of mechanical and electrical equipment/plant from two buildings on behalf of Bovis Lend Lease (BLL). The project was particularly challenging as the fume extraction equipment and ducting were heavily contaminated, requiring analysis prior to removal and disposal under controlled conditions.
BLL was highly complimentary of the standard of KpH’s work, which resulted in KpH being featured in the main contractors’ H&S ‘Best Practice’ report.
The scope of works included:
- Strip out and dismantling of plant as per BLL instruction
- Strip out and removal of AHUs, pipe work and ducting from within two buildings
- Dismantling and removal of a sectional water storage tank
- Dismantling and removal of extensive roof top plant
- Removal and disposal of contaminated materials under controlled conditions
- Break out and removal of concrete plinths Dismantling and removal of riser pipe work Capping-off various services throughout the two buildings
- Removal of fire dampers An extensive closure report was provided to meet BLL detailed criteria

Client – Sofitel Luxury Hotel, Terminal 4, Gatwick Airport
Project - Plant Removal & Placement
This project demonstrates KpH Environmental’s ability to manage, plan and interface successfully with a number of project parties. As part of the mechanical and electrical refurbishment, of this of this busy and fully operational airport hotel, KpH was enlisted to carry out the night time contract lift, including the removal, transportation and disposal of two 6.5 tonne chiller cabinets located on the roof of a ten storey building.
A particularly complex element of the works involved managing the temporary closing of Gatwick Airport’s busy perimeter road and the crucial communications with the Air Traffic Control Tower to avoid any risk associated with a high reach crane operating within a landing approach arena. The ability of KpH to deliver services in a sensitive, well planned and incredibly safe manner is the reason this project was completed smoothly and to the client's complete satisfaction.
The scope of works included:
- Mobilisation to site and set up of 250-tonne rated crane to carry out night time contract lifts
- Removal of 2 No. 6.5 tonne existing chillers from the roof of the Sofitel Luxury Hotel
- Crane into position 2 new chiller units.
From a single machine, to the entire contents of a manufacturing facility, KpH ensures that work of this nature - including managing waste and recycling - is carried out in a careful and environmentally sensitive manner, ensuring minimum disruption to surrounding buildings and installations.
For difficult or restricted situations, KpH offers specialist lifting services, employing hydraulic ram gantry lifting techniques, which can be used where crane access is not an option. Once a plant room has been dismantled and cleared, KpH can provide transportation and the positioning of new machinery and plant.
KpH’s experienced teams carry out these exacting works following an initial full site risk assessment and the implementation of a detailed site specific method statement.
